Our Wellness Group meets to brain storm every six mths & draft wellness activities. We share these with staff each month on our electronic message boards. 2017 July to Dec included Healthy Habits – to promote health & exercise we meet twice a week for a ten minute walk around our building to combat afternoon fatigue. We held a healthy morning tea where staff shared their delicious healthy food ideas. We support a bike riding group activity each mth with our District Director a keen participant. We promote Fitness Passport (a gym membership). We ran ‘Ted Talks’ to share stress management ideas. Following a survey about lunch break spaces the District Leadership team supported the staff feedback by providing comfortable out-door settings on individual floors for lunch breaks. 2018 supported Ovarian Cancer & Autism Awareness morning teas where staff donated fundraising food. Personally impacted staff members shared information about these topics. As Cairns weather is now cooler the activity for July is group walks on our seaside Esplanade. As the year progresses we are planning an event or talk for stress busting in August, will encourage staff to take part in a health check in September & our bike group will support bike week activities. We have run surveys with staff to establish their interest in various activities. Generally participation rate is highest when the event is focussing on a particular health issue that may have impacted them or their families personally.
