The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is the peak body representing Queensland’s seventy-seven local councils in its dealings with other governments, unions, business and the community
The LGAQ strives to be an employer of choice by promoting a healthy and productive working environment and encouraging its staff to be active, eat healthily and maintain their happiness while at work.
LGAQ’s Wellness Program uses the 6 Dimensions of Wellness as its framework and provides activities, events and resources that aim to promote not just physical wellbeing, but also social, occupational, emotional, spiritual and intellectual wellbeing.
A Wellness Committee, comprised of nine members from executive, management and employee levels, puts together an annual calendar of initiatives that includes:
· Healthy heart checks
· Flu vaccinations
· 10,000 step challenges
· Employee social day
· End of Year celebration
· Talks on a range of topics eg managing stress, looking after elderly parents
· A Wellness expo
· Birthday celebrations
· Weekly fresh fruit basket and nuts
· Monthly newsletter
· Monthly meditation sessions
· Participation in awareness activities such as RUOK Day, Walk To Work, FebFast, Movember
The success of our program can be seen in our job satisfaction ratings over the last 3 years i.e. 93%, 85% & 92% and our unplanned absenteeism which is well below national average (Source: AHRI).
